It may seem that TAI is about to make a dramatic shift, but in many ways we are returning to our core purpose and strength - a focus on improving the conditions that women face because of the HIV epidemic. We will do this by using non-directive activities that facilitate reflection, discussion, re-evaluation and change.

Our shift is more around the scope of our work. Where previously we focussed on individuals only, TAI is now, as a result of our growth and learning, able to offer entire communities an integrated service - one that involves the individual and various structures, up to the community as a whole.

Most dramatically we have moved from a proposals-based approach to an integrated programmatic approach.

vision

To nurture community health and well-being through an HIV prevention and AIDS mitigation programme that is innovative, sustainable and holistic.

mission

Using an innovative rights-based approach, TAI will strive to work in partnership with communities to provide an integrated, participatory programme that:

  • use a non-directive approach in line with the principles of KAMSEE (Knowledge, Attitudes, Motivation, Skills and Enabling Environment) to encourage behaviours that promote well-being;
  • build skills and capacities that develop self-reliance and self-efficacy;
  • deliver essential services as per identified community needs and TAI's capacity;
  • network and co-operate with relevant structures to provide complimentary services; and
  • advocate and lobby key decision-makers around priority community issues.

In particular, TAI's programme will focus on strategies that engage young men in issues around positive masculinity and meaningful participation in promoting community well-being.

objectives

  • To build community relationships
  • To develop young male soccer players to act as responsible, committed and caring role-models and to protect themselves from contracting HIV and AIDS
  • To improve child wellbeing
  • To establish and support a community structure to locally manage and co-ordinate the process
  • To provide an integrated and high quality HCBC network and VCT service
  • To provide overall programmatic oversight and co-ordination (Management & Administration)
