a challenge to men

Men often play a role of protectors and providers for their families, now it is time for them to take their role to another level and protect their families from HIV and AIDS. Men, especially from rural areas work far from home and they spend a large amount of time away from thier wives and I believe thats where the problem starts.

It is hard for some of them to control their sexual appetites so they end up engaging in casual sex with different partners, most of the time prostitutes, and its not a secret that most men are not fond of using condoms. So by doing that they put themselves and their wives at risk of HIV infection, which can have very bad circumstances for the whole family especially their children who may have to endure life as orphans. The role of women in society makes it difficult for them to be able to have the final say when it comes to sexual matters with their husbands, so they may end up getting infected with HIV and other sexually transmitted infections because they usually don't have the power to negotiate condom use with their husbands. So man must take the initiative and protect themselves and their families from HIV and AIDS.

how can men help to stop the spread of hiv and aids

There are many HIV voluntary counselling and testing sites all over the country and many of them offer a quality service for free, but somehow most men don't want to test. So if men want to become the heroes in the fight against HIV and AIDS, they must be brave enough to go for HIV counselling and testing. VCT can mean a new beginning for an individual whether the result is negative or positive. A negative test means that as a man you can start protecting you partner by using condoms everytime you have sex or you can encourage your partner to also do an HIV test. But even if you test positive you can still protect your partner by using condoms all the time and living a healthy life style. That can help you live longer with hiv and see your kids grow with both their parents alive.

Its time for men to stand up and fight against this deadly desease, TIME IS QUICKLY RUNNING OUT!
